Insurance:
Sunrise industry? With privatisation of the insurance
sector, career prospects are manifold. You have an opportunity
to work in wide areas like underwriting, sales, marketing
and distribution, product management, finance, HR operations,
customer service and investment. Insurance is one of the
most interesting careers in finance. Insurance means being
covered or protected against the perils of life be it accidents,
natural disasters, thefts, fire etc. Insurance agents differ
depending upon the types of insurance they specialize in
(though one has an option of specializing in more than one)
Insurance agents are middlemen who represent their insurance
company and approach prospective clients to sell the insurance
policies. The opening of the insurance sector has opened
exciting new career opportunities for the Indian professionals.
With the privatisation of the insurance sector in the year
2000 ,there are more than 25 players in the insurance market
today. The nature of work has also changed -the skill requirements
of the insurance industry has also changed.
- Commercial Banking / Retail Banking:
Banking today has transformed into a technology intensive
and customer friendly model with a focus on convenience.
The sector is set to witness the emergence of financial
supermarkets in the form of universal banks providing a
suite of services from retail to corporate banking and
industrial lending to investment banking.

The Indian banking system has a large geographic and functional
coverage. Presently the total asset size of the Indian banking
sector is US$ 270 billion while the total deposits amount to
US$ 220 billion with a branch network exceeding 66,000 branches
across the country. Revenues of the banking sector have grown
at 6 per cent CAGR over the past few years to reach a size
of US$ 15 billion. While commercial banks cater to short and
medium term financing requirements, national level and state
level financial institutions meet longer-term requirements.
This distinction is getting blurred with commercial banks extending
project finance. The total disbursements of the financial institutions
in 2001 were US$ 14 billion.With the privatisation of banking
sector there are now many private players in the fray, and
banks are now expanding rapidly all across India. Commercial/Retail
banking has touched the lives of almost every Indian. The career
options available in the banking sector are manifold. The
various careers options ranging from Relationship Manager,
Branch Managers, customer relations officer, Loans, Credit
Cards, Operations, Recovery to name just a few.
Indirect Sales: An important sector in the
financial services-companies act as a leading distributor of
mutual fund products, Bonds, Fixed Deposits, Equity IPOs through
a dedicated distribution network .Developing dealers, sub-brokers
through training, seminars and exchange of ideas. Research
inputs to better equip our sub-brokers in their role as 'Financial
Advisors'.
Mergers and Acquisitions (M & A): M&A
specialists are industry specialists with extensive experience
in capital markets. They provide clients with financial advice
and assist them in restructuring, divestitures, acquisitions,
de-mergers, spin-offs, joint ventures, privatization, and takeover
defense mechanisms in M&A transactions.
