2009-At a time when the private sector, reeling under the heat of the global financial meltdown, is cutting salaries and reducing jobs; Public sector undertakings are back in the spotlight as preferred job destination for young aspirants from IIM's . With revised pay structure and a proposed 50 to 60% increase in salaries of PSU employees, PSU jobs have becme much saught after in the prestigious IIM's .BHEL-Bharat Heavy Electricals has been invited for campus placement by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) after a gap of almost a decade. 2009-Campus Offer-Salary- at (IIM) Indore dipped by 21 per cent. It is tough time for MBA graduates even from elite B-schools of India as was evident from the fact that salaries for the 2009 batch of the Indian Institute of Management, (IIM) Indore dipped by 21 per cent. The institute said that its batch of 175 students averaged an annual salary offer of Rs10.29 lakh, a 21% dip from the Rs13.07 lakh average offer last year. This year, the B-school had 126 recruiters on campus, 71 of them first-time ones. Virgin Mobile, Manipal Group, Punj Lloyd and Jindal Steel were among the new recruiters at IIM Indore.

Last Year-2008-Average salary offered last year TOP TIER B SCHOOLS) was in the range of 8-10 lakhs and average foreign salary was in the range of $75,000-$1,00,000 per annum.

More companies were hiring from top tier B schools, and the salaries offered last year have seen  a huge surge upwards vis-à-vis previous years. The maximum offers came from financial services and the IT and KPO / BPO sectors. At IIM Ahmedabad-Barclays offered 16 positions. But the Financial services sector was clearly dominant this year and traditional hot sectors as FMCG etc.  came second.

The summer placements  of Indian School of Management, Kozhikode was the best last year. All student got placed . Overall stipend grew by 35%.Average stipends were around Rs. 20,000 a month. Yahoo! was the highest among the domestic offer with stipend figures touching Rs. 45,000/-per month. Quite a few students got summer internship abroad. Among the companies those who visited IIM Kozhikode were Goldman Sachs, PwC, JP Morgan Chase, StanChart, HSBC Bank, Deloitte Consulting etc. 

IIM Calcutta had 90 of its students picked up for internship abroad. Led by Investment banks such as Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse  , Fortis, Lehman Brothers, UBS, Citigroup, ABN Amro , Barclays. Private equity companies such as Tano Capital, Baring Private Equity also recruited for positions in New York. 33 firms at IIMC picked uo over 90 students for internship across the world including New York, London, Singapore etc. 

In 2008, Investment Banks were clearly the favorite in IIM Bangalore with about 68% of the students opting to pursue a career there. Deutche Bank, Barclays Capital, JP Morgan, Lehman Brothers offered multiple summer internships. This time a total of 101 students were offered internship abroad.

For Indian positions stipend ranged from Rs. 90,000- 4.5 lakh. International stipends ranged from $12,000 -22,000.The average international stipend rose by $2000 this year ( $14,000 compared to $ 12,000 last year). Average Indian stipend grew 35% last year to touch Rs. 20,000 a month. In 2007, Wellingkar placed 189 students with the highest salary of Rs.7.2 Lakh given by a domestic company and around Rs 17 Lakh for an international assignment.
